Julie Verhoeven by Howard Tangye
Tomorrow is going to be quite busy, we are filming Katharine Hamnett in the morning and then we are going to the house of Saint Martins most influencial illustrator/ tutor Howard Tangye, not only we are going to film him talking about the role Saint Martins played in his life ( graduated from Saint Martins in 1974 and then he came back there to teach, today Howard is in charge of womenswear) but we will also film a life drawing session, which is very very exciting! I will upload some of his illustrations.
p.s. when we were interviweing Julie Verhoeven she said that Howard was the reason for her to apply to Saint Martins..
I went yesterday to see the livefashion space in old street, where we are filming Katharine Hamnett on Tuesday, to find out what lights we will need and to see what it looks like. Here are couple of pictures.
f4men asked: Hey, I just saw your like and I came to check your blog out!! You have a great background! I just move to London and I am finishing my undergraduate studies!
How is Central Saint Martins!? Cheers! Led.
Thank you Led,
Its a very exciting time for Saint Martins, I guess you can compare it to the end of the life of a Phoenix who will be burnt in her blood and reborn from ashes. But will it be the same, I don’t know. It is definitely the end of Saint Martins we know, Saint Martins of Galliano, McQueen, Chalayan, Ozbek, Hamnett, Kane and many others. But at the same it is the beginning of something new, will it be better or worth time will tell.
I am very excited as we are about to interview Katharine Hamnett next Tuesday, one of the first and biggest success of Saint Martins. She was at Saint Martins from 1965-1969 A very exciting time… I guess student life wasn’t only extraordinary in Paris in 1968, lets see what she will say about being student in London in the late 60s.
I am preparing the questions at the moment as Katharine wants to see it in advance. I have found a fantastic article in the Independent dated October 1989, a profile on KH. In witch her former tutor and head of fashion at the time Elizabeth Suter shares her impression on Katharine
” An outstanding character, a marvellous girl, always amusing and sparky,if she walked into the room one was always aware of her”
” It was about the time we were beginning to have trouble with student sit-ins, and Katharine stuck out against it. She wanted to get on with her work”
Sounds like she wasn’t that rebellious back then…
At the moment I am working on the structure of the film and planing future interviews. But its been so long since I have started working on this project and I no longer understand what is interesting and what is not. So came up with an idea to ask you guys what and who would you like to see in the film.
So I have two questions for you guys :
1. What would you like to know about Saint Martins ?
2. Who would you like to see ?
thank you guys XXXX
