"I HATE MY COLLECTION": Saint Martins unveiled

Summer 2011. The new chapter of Central Saint Martins history starts. The historic and important college will move from its Soho site and join other branches of Central Saint Martins in a new purpose-built development in King’s Cross. As it is the end of an era for this legendary institution, I have found it meaningful to make a documentary film about the art college and the old St Martins school building on Charing Cross Road.

Who hates their collection ?

The idea of the documentary’s title : ’ i hate my collection’ comes from a graffiti, from about 12 years ago, found in Saint Martin’s old buidling on Charing Cross road by Judith, probably in a toilet, that’s where all the graffiti used to be, well at least all the good once.

For the past yeah and a half, actually almost two years I was trying to find someone who hates their graduation collection. It wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, in fact most of people love their collections ( imagine that ? ), or maybe they are just trained to say so, it sounds better for press, who knows but the closest to ’ i hate my collection’ was : ’ It’s ok’ or ’ I don’t really like it’ but nothing as radical.

Yesterday, I saw an interview with Ehud Joseph, a former Saint Martins student, and he actually hates his collections. You can read the whole interivew here:

OXX

P.S. And by the way, I also found a review that talks about a Saint Martins documentary that is called ’ I despise my collection’ I hope it’s a spoof on the film that doesn’t exist quite yet.
